What types of pets are accepted for transportation?
Only domestic dogs and cats are accepted, either:
- In the cabin (PETC), or
- In the aircraft hold (AVIH)
Any other animals must be handled through the Cargo Department.
Are service animals accepted?
Yes.
- Trained guide dogs for visually or hearing impaired passengers travel free of charge.
- Other service animals (SVAN) are transported free of charge, subject to notification at reservation.
Pet in cabin (PETC)
What are the main conditions for pets travelling in the cabin?
- One (1) pet per passenger (dog or cat).
- Pet must travel in a special carrier provided by the passenger.
- Pet + container must not exceed 8 kg.
- A Live Animal Acceptance Checklist must be completed and signed at the airport.
What are the maximum carrier dimensions for PETC?
- A320 family: 55 cm (L) x 40 cm (W) x 23 cm (H)
- DH8-100 / ATR 42 / ATR 72: 40 cm x 25 cm x 25 cm
Are passengers with infants allowed to carry a pet in cabin?
Are PRMs, pregnant women, or UMNRs allowed to carry PETC?
Yes. PRMs, pregnant women, and UMNRs are allowed to carry PETC.
Is prepaid PETC service refundable?
Yes, PETC service is refundable.
Animals in hold (AVIH)
What is AVIH?
AVIH refers to dogs or cats transported as checked baggage in the aircraft hold.
What is the maximum number of pets allowed per passenger?
A passenger may transport up to 5 pets in total.
What is the maximum weight for AVIH?
- Recommended maximum: 50 kg including container
- Pets exceeding 8 kg must travel as AVIH
Which aircraft accept AVIH?
- Airbus aircraft only
- Olympic Air Dash 8 aircraft do NOT accept AVIH
Are there connection time restrictions for AVIH?
Yes. AVIH is not accepted if connecting time exceeds 3 hours.
How many animals can be placed in one container?
Normally one animal per container.
Up to 2 animals if:
- Each weighs up to 14 kg.
- They are familiar with each other.
Up to 3 animals if:
- Each is under 6 months old.
- From the same litter.
Is prepaid AVIH service refundable?
Yes, AVIH service is refundable.
Special destinations
Are pets allowed to travel to Dubai?
No. Pets to Dubai are accepted only as Cargo (minimum 4 days prior request).
Are pets allowed to travel to the UK?
No PETC or AVIH is permitted. Pets are accepted only as Cargo to London Heathrow (LHR).
Are pets allowed to travel to Dublin?
Yes. PETC and AVIH are accepted, subject to crate size limitations:
- Max: 950 mm (H) x 950 mm (W) x 2000 mm (L)
Breed restrictions
Are snub-nosed breeds accepted?
Snub-nosed breeds are not accepted in the hold or as cargo due to respiratory risks.
Are there breeds not accepted at all?
Yes. Certain breeds are not accepted as PETC or AVIH and must be handled as Cargo (e.g. Rottweiler, Doberman, Tosa Inu, etc.).
