  • Each passenger can travel with only one (1) pet (cat or dog) in cabin, with max permitted weight for a pet (incl container) eight (8) kilos.
  • Passengers travelling with infants cannot carry a pet in the cabin of the aircraft.
  • A Live Animal Acceptance Checklist must be completed and signed at the AEGEAN's check-in counter.
  • Bookings for pets are accepted on a priority basis as there is a limited number of pets/animals per flight.
  • Pets must be clean, healthy, harmless, odorless, not pregnant, not sedated and not annoying for other passengers.
  • With the exception of specific breeds, which apply to both cabin and AVIH, only cats and dogs (including guide dogs – see ‘Service animals’ below) can travel with you.

Weight & size restrictions

  • Soft-sided pet carrier case for A320 family: 55cm x 40cm x 23cm DH8-100 & ATR42 / ATR72 40cm x 25cm x 25cm. The space under the front seat may vary depending on the aircraft type, hard-sided carriers may not fit on all aircraft.
  • Pets (cats or dogs) exceeding 8 kg total weight (animal + container) must be transported exclusively in the aircraft hold.
  • The total weight of the AVIH (including the container/box) must not exceed 50 kg.
  • Only dogs and cats are accepted for carriage in the hold of Airbus 320, 321, ATR 42-600 and ATR 72-600 aircraft. No other animal species are permitted.

Connection & transfer rules

  • Pets cannot be accepted for transport in the hold if the connecting time exceeds 3 hours.

    • Be of the same species,
    • Be familiar with each other,
    • Travel in the same approved container,
    • Not exceed 8 kg total (animals + container).
  • The maximum number of pet/animals which may accompany the owner or an authorized person during a single flight shall not exceed five (5) (including other hold items such as baggage and special equipment). The maximum number of pets/animals per container is three (3), all having the same date of birth.

Not accepted for transport

  • Animals intended for laboratory or scientific purposes are not accepted for carriage.

Carrier case requirements

  • The container must allow the pet to stand, turn, and lie down naturally.
  • Passengers must provide an approved pet container/box.
  • It must be ventilated on at least four (4) sides.

International & route rules

Traveling abroad

  • Transportation of pets is subject to all applicable Government regulations for the import, export, and transit of live animals.
  • Requirements vary by country; therefore, it is mandatory that passengers/pet owners consult the competent national authorities (typically the Ministry of Food and Animal Welfare or equivalent) of the destination country for up-to-date rules, documentation, and additional entry conditions.
  • For further information, please visit the official governmental websites  or the designated veterinary/animal health authority of the destination country.

Route restrictions

    • From the UK:

      • Except London Gatwick (LGW), where only cargo transport is allowed.
  • Each dog with cropped ears imported into Ireland—whether transported as cargo, PETC (Pet in Cabin), or AVIH (Animal in Hold)—must hold an official import license issued by the Animal Welfare Division, Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine.
  • In addition, every dog with cropped ears entering Ireland must be accompanied by the original veterinary certificate confirming the medical/veterinary reason for the ear-cropping procedure, signed by a licensed veterinarian and bearing the official veterinary practice stamp.
  • For international travel, pet owners are required to present a valid EU Pet Passport or other accepted pet travel document as defined by the destination authority.

    • Trained service dogs: including seeing-eye dogs (guide dogs for visually impaired passengers), hearing-aid dogs (for passengers with impaired hearing) and trained service dogs assisting passengers with medical or developmental conditions (e.g., epilepsy, autism) are accepted for travel.
