Pet in cabin

Important Notes

  1. The pet carrier case must be no larger than: 55cm length, 40cm width and 23cm height (A320 family) and the pet carrier case dimensions are reduced to: 40cm x 25cm x 25cm (DH8-100 & ATR42 / ATR72).
  2. Passengers travelling with infants are not permitted to carry a pet in the cabin of the aircraft.
  3. A Live Animal Acceptance Checklist must be completed and signed at the airport.

Cage and dimensions

  • Transportation of pets in the aircraft cabin is permitted only if the pets are carried in a special pet carrier case. Passengers are permitted to travel with just one pet, either a dog or a cat, which will accompany the passenger within the aircraft cabin and must travel in a special pet carrier case which it is the passenger’s responsibility to provide. If the passenger wishes to transport more than one pet then it is imperative that the pets already be familiar with each other.
  • The pet carrier case must be no larger than: 55cm length, 40cm width and 23cm height (A320 family).
  • Please note that for DH8-100, ATR 42-600 and ATR 72-600 aircraft,  the pet carrier case dimensions are reduced to: 40cm x 25cm x 25cm.
  • The maximum permitted weight for a pet, including the container, is 8kg. The pet health book must be presented for inspection at check-in and the animal must have been fitted with a mandatory ID microchip. When travelling abroad you must also present a pet passport.

Health Conditions

  • The animal must be a minimum of 12 weeks old, with a valid Anti-Rabies vaccination on the day of travel. For a vaccination to be considered valid it must have been applied after the application of the microchip or tattoo. The Anti-Rabies vaccination is repeated every year. If the animal had his first Anti-rabies vaccination, it cannot travel, until 21 days have elapsed from the date of vaccination. The same restriction of 21 days applies in the event that the vaccination is applied after missing the original expiration date.
  • Passengers with INFs are not allowed to carry a PETC.
  • PRMs, Pregnant women, UMNRs are allowed to carry PETC
  • Animals intended for laboratory and scientific purposes will not be accepted, unless the shipper provides a certificate confirming that the animals are transported on behalf of a Medical Research Hospital or a Scientific Institution.
  • The animal must be clean, healthy, harmless, odourless, and not pregnant.
  • The animal must not be sedated.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR REQUESTING A PET IN CABIN WITHIN THE BOOKING FOR BOTH DOMESTIC AND INTERNATIONAL ROUTINGS

For carriage to be approved, you must insert into booking -in advance of passenger’s journey- the relevant entry (SSR) of your GDS using NN status, by notifying the kind of pet (cat or dog), the kilograms including the box and the dimensions of the box. An Aegean reply will follow upon the SSR status (HK or UC), accompanied –where needed- with a respective SSR which will provide you with the correct details. In case you haven’t followed these details in first place, you should insert a new correct SSR. Afterwards the same procedure will be followed by Aegean for the reply.

In addition the reply upon the SSR status (HK or UC) depends as well on the quantity of the applied PETs (cats and dogs) per flight and the restrictions.

For more information regarding entries, please contact the relevant Help Desk of your GDS or visit your GDS’s Help/Info Pages.

Animal in hold (AVIH)

Important Notes

  1. The maximum number of pets a passenger can travel with must not exceed 5.
  2. The total weight of AVIH (including the container/box) must not exceed 50kg.
  3. Animals are transported in the hold only on Airbus aircraft. Olympic Air Dash aircraft do not allow AVIH transportation.

Definition

Animals in hold are domestic animals such as dogs and cats transported as checked baggage in the aircraft hold.

In addition, cats or dogs that exceed the 8kg weight limit(including container), should only be carried in the cargo compartment of the aircraft, and must follow the appropriate reservation procedure. With the exception of specific breeds, it is important to mention that only Airbus aircraft may carry animals in the cargo compartment. Dash 8 aircraft operated by Olympic Air cannot carry AVIH.

The animal must be clean, healthy, harmless, odorless, and not pregnant.

The animal must not be sedated.

The animal must have a valid Pet Passport (alternatively a Health Handbook – ONLY valid for domestic flights)

The animal must be a minimum of 12 weeks old, with a valid Anti-Rabies vaccination on the day of travel.

Animals intended for laboratory and scientific purposes will not be accepted, unless the shipper provides a certificate confirming that the animals are transported on behalf of a Medical Research Hospital or a Scientific Institution.

  • The maximum number of Domesticated Animals that an owner can transport cannot be more than 5 animals.
  • As a rule, each container should have only one animal.
  • However, we can accept up to 2 dogs or cats in one container, provided that the animals are up to 14kg each and provided that they are familiar with each other.
  • Moreover, we can accept up to 3 dogs or cats in one container, provided that the animals are up to 6 months old each and they are from the same birth.
  • The total weight of the AVIH (including the container) is not restricted to a certain limit, however as a recommendation, the AVIH should not exceed 50kgr.
  • PRMs,  Pregnant women,  UMNRs are allowed to carry AVIH.
  • Animals may not be accepted to be transported in the aircraft hold for a connecting time exceeding three (3) hours.

In these cases, the following is required:

  1. Written authorization from the owner, using a Declaration.
